Vet Techs: at the heart of pet care

The role of veterinary technicians at Dongan Hills Veterinary Practice is an important one, both to you and your pet.

Under the supervision of our veterinarians, the vet techs are a leading as well as an integral part of the diagnostic, surgical and nursing care team.

Vet techs are to the veterinarian what RNs, LPNs and medical technicians are to the physician.

Our veterinary technicians hold associate degrees in applied sciences, animal health or veterinary sciences.

They have passed a two year degree program encompassing classroom lectures, laboratory work and six month of rotating internships in different aspects of veterinary medicine. Additionally, in New York State, there is an encompassing state administered licensing exam that must be passed to practice their profession.

These educated, trained and licensed pet health care professionals are key figures in the examining rooms, laboratory, radiology, pharmacy, surgery and hospital.
